Terms of Use
The terms that govern hospital, staff, and patient use of Kindred Space.
1. Agreement
These Terms of Use govern access to and use of Kindred Space. By requesting access, activating an account, or using the platform on a hospital-provided device, you agree to these terms. If you use Kindred Space on behalf of a hospital, you confirm that you are authorized to accept these terms for that organization.
2. What Kindred Space is — and is not
Kindred Space is a supportive digital environment for psychiatric inpatient and behavioral health units. It is not a medical device, not a diagnostic or treatment tool, not an electronic health record, and not an emergency notification system.
Nothing in the platform replaces clinical judgment, direct observation, in-person care, or a hospital's own emergency procedures. Anyone experiencing a crisis should tell a staff member immediately or call 988 in the United States.
3. Cost
Kindred Space is provided free of charge to psychiatric hospitals and behavioral health units. Should paid features ever be introduced, no hospital would be charged without notice and explicit agreement.
4. Accounts and access
Staff and administrator accounts are invitation-only and may not be self-created, shared, or transferred. Patient accounts are created by staff at admission and are used only by that patient during their stay.
- Keep credentials, PINs, and reset links confidential.
- Use only the access your role and unit assignment grant you.
- Report suspected unauthorized access to your administrator and to Kindred Space promptly.
- Administrators are responsible for removing access when a staff member leaves or changes roles.
5. Hospital responsibilities
The hospital decides which features are enabled, which patients receive devices, how content is reviewed, and how staff are trained. The hospital is responsible for the accuracy of the information it enters, for supervising patient use of shared devices, and for complying with the laws and professional obligations that apply to its care setting.
6. Acceptable use
When using Kindred Space, you agree not to:
- Access information about patients outside your assigned scope or clinical need.
- Attempt to view, recover, or export another person's private content.
- Interfere with, probe, or attempt to bypass authentication, permissions, or audit logging.
- Use the platform to harass, intimidate, or harm another person.
- Upload unlawful material, or content that violates a third party's rights.
- Use automated means to scrape, overload, or disrupt the service.
7. Patient content
Journals, artwork, letters, and Hope Box items belong to the patient who created them, and Kindred Space claims no ownership of them. Patients grant only the limited permission needed to store and display their content back to them within the platform, and to include it in a discharge package when they request one.
8. Music and third-party services
Where a hospital connects a music service, that connection is subject to the third party's own terms, and the hospital is responsible for maintaining any account or subscription it requires. Approvals, libraries, and playback remain within that hospital.
9. Availability and changes
We work to keep Kindred Space available and reliable, but the service is provided as-is and may be interrupted for maintenance, updates, or reasons beyond our control. Features may be added, changed, or retired as the platform develops; changes that materially affect hospital workflows will be communicated in advance where practical.
10. Suspension and termination
Access for an organization or an individual account may be suspended or revoked where use violates these terms, presents a safety or security risk, or where a hospital requests it. Hospitals may stop using Kindred Space at any time and request export or deletion of their information.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kindred Space is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from use of the platform, or for clinical decisions made by a hospital or its staff. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
12. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the platform evolves. Hospitals using Kindred Space will be notified of material changes, and continued use after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
13. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent through the Contact Kindred Space form linked in the footer of every page.
